At the time of parting, she gifts him a pocket watch as a memento. A grown-up Chandra still ardently treasures the pocket watch. He comes to Bombay when his friend Prakash (Zahur Raja) gives him a job in a musical instruments shop. Basanti (Suraiya) a rich and vivacious girl falls in love with Chandra. But, he is only interested in finding Lata. By now, Lata has turned a writer, her work published under the pen -name "Renuka Devi". Eventually Lata and Chandra meet but by the time they recognize each other, it is too late as Lata is already engaged to Prakashà Will Chandra sacrifice his love for his friend or will he re-unite with Lata ?
